Aren’t we all curious about how things work?
CBD oil can help you with headaches, body aches, swelling, arthritis, anxiety, seizures, along with many other things. But how?
The answer to that question is the way that CBD oil interacts with the Endocannabinoid System.
Here are 3 facts about the Endocannabinoid System.
1. All mammals with vertebrae have an Endocannabinoid System. The Endocannabinoid System helps fine tune our most vital physical functions. It promotes homeostasis (relatively stable equilibrium) in our bodies. A fully functioning Endocannabinoid System stabilizes sleep, appetite, pain, inflammation, memory, mood and even reproduction.
2. A mis-functioning Endocannabinoid System is referred to as a Clinical Endocannabinoid Deficiency. The hypothesis is that if someone is suffering with this, they can take CBD to correct the deficiency and help them get their body back to their homeostasis state. Clinical Endocannabinoid Deficiency can be manifested through migraines, hypersensitivity to pain or other stimuli, fibromyalgia, irritable bowel syndrome, and other symptoms.
3. Aerobic exercise and diet help the Endocannabinoid System. Aerobic exercise increases levels of anandamide, which is a feel good Endocannabinoid. Research has shown that anandamide has has the most receptors in the brain. Essential fatty acid like omega 3 has also shown to help support Endocannabinoid brain signaling.
Just like other supplements and aids, CBD oil cannot turn ones life around on its own.
Now let’s talk about HOW CBD works in our body’s to improve our health!
Why does CBD oil work for us? It connects to the endocannabinoid system (ECS). This system was discovered in the 1990s and is named after what helped scientists discover the system – cannabis. The ECS is essential to homeostasis in the body.
The ECS has 3 parts:
2. Receptors for cannabinoids and endocannabinoids to bind with
3. Enzymes that break down cannabinoids and endocannabinoids.
The graphic below shows what body systems are connected with the CB1 and CB2 receptors (click image to zoom in). Cannabinoids do NOT physically connect to the CB1 or CB2 receptors at the same place where endocannabinoids connect to these receptors. Instead they connect to a different location which can mutate the CB1 and CB2 receptors connection points. There are many receptors that are benefited by CBD.
Two of those receptors are:
1. The TRPV1 receptor which works to control pain perception, body temperature, and inflammation.
2. Anandamide, which is the bodies own happy pill that is naturally produced.
